Background and objectives of activities
The fisheries industry in Kagoshima Prefecture is facing a decline in the number of people working in the industry and the necessity to introduce technology that will lead to greater efficiency. In addition, many of the islands in Kagoshima Prefecture have difficulty in generating electricity in accordance with demand, which poses a challenge to the advancement of the primary industry. Furthermore, the problem of marine plastic waste is extremely serious for Kagoshima Prefecture, which has a wide coastline. This research aims to solve the above problems by making industries smarter, and to strengthen existing businesses and create new businesses.
Summary of Activities
[A] By utilizing the integrated knowledge of Kagoshima University and the regional version of Big Data, develop a system to promote the smart use of these industries in order to strengthen the business of the fisheries and marine industries in Kagoshima Prefecture and create new businesses.
[B] To develop a system for highly efficient use of renewable energy as a local resource on the islands of Kagoshima Prefecture.
[C] To develop a marine plastic waste monitoring system to achieve rational treatment and disposal of marine plastic waste
Expected Benefits
[A] Greater rate of smartening of the industry will lead to improved working conditions for fishermen. It is expected to reduce the mortality rate of farmed tuna and boost the balance of the business.
[B] It will lead to the reduction of CO2 emissions and industrial promotion in remote islands. In addition, the construction of a disaster-resistant power transmission and distribution system and reduction of fuel costs can be expected.
[C] It will be possible to verify the appropriateness of the budget for the marine litter control project. It will facilitate planning and cost calculation for waste disposal.
