Background and objectives of activities
Every August, the Department of Technology holds a “Fun Summer Holiday Craft Workshop” for elementary and junior high school students. The aim of this workshop is to give children the chance to experience making things for themselves and to discover the fun and excitement of making things. It also gives them the opportunity to use university facilities for a day and to communicate with university teachers and students. It is also well-regarded as a summer holiday research project.
Summary of Activities
In the 2025 (Reiwa 7) craft workshops, we offered diverse hands-on experiences such as making glowing mud balls, building capacitor cars, and creating freely using wood.
Expected Benefits
Through actually making things, we will raise awareness among children and students about the manufacturing technologies that support our lives, and encourage them to participate in society in order to achieve the goals set out in the SDGs. By learning about better manufacturing technologies, we will provide opportunities to learn about using products carefully for a long time, and to use limited resources and materials carefully, and foster an attitude of growing up as a member of a sustainable society.
