Background and objectives of activities
The Tokara Islands, located between Yakushima and Amami Oshima, have northern and southern limits to the distribution of various species and are considered vulnerable to climate change; they are considered to straddle two biogeographic zones (tropical and subtropical), and although terrestrial organisms have been studied, little is known about coastal organisms. The purpose of this activity is to clarify the distribution of each coastal species in the Satsunan Islands, including the Tokara Archipelago, and to predict possible changes that may occur as a result of global warming.

Summary of Activities
The distribution of coastal organisms (fish, invertebrates, and seaweeds) on the islands of the Tokara Archipelago will be clarified from literature and field surveys.
We will investigate the status of habitats by using remote sensing.
Predict how the distribution may change with future global warming.
