The transformation of fish aquaculture from a resource-plundering industry to an environmentally friendly industry, and the improvement of its productivity to eliminate hunger and increase food self-sufficiency, are becoming national and global challenges. We would like to address these issues from a business economic perspective and contribute to the formulation of specific policies and the establishment of sustainable businesses through the results of our research.
Summary of Activities
We are the only laboratory in Japan that conducts high-density surveys of various aquaculture production sites throughout Japan, as well as their distribution, processing, and consumption sites. The laboratory also participates in policy-making activities of the Cabinet Office and the Fisheries Agency, and advises private companies on practical issues and measures to realize sustainable growth of the aquaculture industry. Through these activities, the laboratory has built a network that includes not only aquaculture researchers but also producers, aquaculture companies, fisheries cooperatives and federations, prefectural governments and fisheries agencies, distributors, processors, retailers, and the media, and is using this network as a foundation to influence and change policy and business, thereby making a concrete contribution to achieving sustainable growth for the aquaculture industry. This is a concrete contribution to the sustainable growth of the aquaculture industry.
Expected Benefits
Through the network centered on our laboratory, we will realize sustainable growth of the aquaculture industry and build a sustainable society in terms of "food".
