Background and objectives of activities
During the rainy season and typhoon season, Kagoshima Prefecture is frequently hit by sediment-related disasters caused by heavy rain. When sediment-related disasters occur, they can have a major impact on local life and the economy, cutting off roads and other infrastructure. As an advisor on sediment-related disaster countermeasures for the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure, Transport and Tourism and Kagoshima Prefecture, I carry out on-site surveys of sediment-related disaster sites in Kagoshima Prefecture, as well as providing technical guidance and advice on determining the causes and restoration methods.

Summary of Activities
Due to the heavy rains on June 21, 2023, a road in Uken Village, Oshima County, Kagoshima Prefecture, was damaged by a landslide. We therefore conducted an on-site survey of the landslide site with the staff and civil engineers of the Road Maintenance Division of the Kagoshima Prefecture Public Works Department and Uken Village.
