Background and objectives of activities

In order to use fishery resources sustainably and effectively, it is essential to monitor resources, set appropriate utilization levels, and make effective use of them, but developing countries often lack the resources and technology to do so. This project will raise the awareness of fishing communities regarding the sustainable and effective use of fishery resources, and provide human resource development, technology development, and support for voluntary resource management and effective use in communities that do not rely on top-down approaches.

Summary of Activities

JICA Technical Training Program and "Grassroots Technical Cooperation" based technological assistance activities in Malaysia to develop and support technology for sustainable and effective utilization of fishery resources, improve the livelihood of fishing communities, and promote the development of related human resources. Develop human resources with a deep understanding of the SDGs through the activities of project staff and participating students, and through their participation in the "JICA University Cooperation Volunteer Dispatch Project" targeting Saint Lucia.

Expected Benefits

Contribute to the improvement of the livelihood of fishing communities by maintaining and effectively utilizing fishery resources.
