Background and objectives of activities
To resolve global and regional issues for sustainable development, awareness of global citizenship and global partnerships ( Objective 17 [Means of Implementation]) are the foundation of the project. In this project, nine U.S. universities, nine Asian universities, and Kagoshima University have created a trilateral collaborative program, and are actively engaged in collaborative learning with partner universities through dispatch and acceptance training and online. Through collaborative learning, students from partner universities and Kagoshima University learn from experience to build relationships in global partnerships as individuals. High-quality education" (Goal 4 [Education]) that produces "human resources who can perceive regional issues as global issues from their specialized fields and act to solve them" and "human resources who can contribute to international cooperation and coexistence in an increasingly multipolar world"; internationalization of the university and the region, and peace and The university aims to advance multicultural conviviality toward a peaceful and inclusive society (Goal 16 [Peace]) by communicating the attractive regional characteristics of Kagoshima and increasing the number of international students.
Summary of Activities
The program consists of elementary, intermediate, and advanced courses. The Global Center is mainly responsible for the elementary and intermediate courses, while the advanced course offers eight courses with broad participation from faculties and graduate schools, and includes online international collaborative learning with overseas partner university students, overseas dispatch training, and international student symposiums. In the training programs with overseas partner university students, students make full use of the resources of the local community and engage in hands-on collaborative learning together. The program also provides extracurricular learning opportunities to improve English language skills and co-curricular opportunities with international students at the university. Throughout The program, students develop the global competencies essential for the promotion of the SDGs in stages from their first year as undergraduates, and each advanced course tackles a specialized issue.
Expected Benefits
Through collaborative learning with students and faculty from 18 partner universities in the U.S. and Asia, networking among people will invigorate global partnerships. It is also expected to contribute to the creation of a peaceful and inclusive society by providing high quality education that considers issues for maintaining sustainable development of local communities and the world.
