Background and objectives of activities


The purpose of the "Kagoshima Cleanup Campaign" is to promote understanding of the marine litter problem among citizens and to encourage them to take action to solve the problem through the "Kagoshima Cleanup Campaign" launched in 1999 as a local version of the "International Coastal Cleanup (ICC)" and the results of marine litter surveys conducted in the Seto Inland Sea, throughout Japan and the North Pacific Ocean.

Summary of Activities

Activities include not only lectures on marine litter, but also introductions to methods of surveying litter that has drifted ashore, how to enjoy collecting litter, and making artwork using litter.

Expected Benefits

The goal is to prevent ocean pollution caused by plastic waste (especially waste discharged from land into the ocean) and to significantly reduce the generation of marine debris from Kagoshima and all around of Japan.
