Background and objectives of activities
As pointed out in the first proposal of the Council for the Creation of the Future of Education released in May at the 4th year of Reiwa era (2022) , there is a problem of students turning away from science at the high school level. We expect that the pre-college science courses for high school students will provide an opportunity to stimulate high school students' desire to study mathematics and science, encourage them to choose science-related careers, and help solve the aforementioned problem. It is also expected to be a new form of education that links high school and university and will help maintain students' interest in specialized studies at universities.
Summary of Activities
This initiative gives high school students the opportunity to experience advanced math and science courses at universities before taking the university entrance exam. While the content of the classes is chosen to be understandable to high school students, the level of the content is appropriate for university students. High school students who achieve high enough grades to receive credit for their work can count it toward their graduation credits when they enroll in the Kagoshima University Faculty of Science. This allows them to devote more time to research and extracurricular activities after entering university.
Expected Benefits
By providing high quality university education to high school students as well as college students, it is expected to have the effect of reducing their anxiety about going to university and motivating them to go to university.
