Background and objectives of activities

Agroforestry in Amazon Tomeasú, Brazil, is gaining attention around the world as a form of agriculture that can be maintained sustainably.
However, (a) the narrative on the emergence and development of agroforestry is mainly male-dominated, (b) male philanthropists who are said to have contributed to the emergence and development of agroforestry had partners who were familiar with farm management and worked hard in agriculture, but this has not been mentioned, (c) The Japanese immigrant women of Tomeasú may have contributed to the formation and development of agroforestry through learning through the agricultural extension and agricultural accounting workshops of the Overseas Migration Project, the training in advanced agricultural areas of the Women's Club of the Tomeasú General Agricultural Cooperative Union, and the agro-processing committee of the Union's Education Committee. Based on the above, this study will clarify the role of Japanese immigrant women in the formation and development of agroforestry in Tomeasú, and the inner workings of the learning that drove it.

Summary of Activities

Analysis of materials from the Japanese-language newspapers "Green Wind" and "Tomeasú" published in Tomeasú, CAMTA, and the Tomeasú Association for the Promotion of Culture and Agriculture.
