Background and objectives of activities

As life expectancy increases, more and more patients lose their jawbone due to trauma or cancer, or their jawbone atrophies with age, making dentures less stable and implants less viable. In such cases, they are unable to eat well and receive adequate nutrition, and as a result, they are unable to ensure a healthy life. There is a need to develop a treatment that can safely regenerate bone without major surgery for everyone.

Summary of Activities

In university hospitals, we treat patients who have lost teeth or jaws with dentures or implants, and in the absence of jaw bone, a highly invasive bone grafting procedure is required. We have developed a method of extracting bone-forming cells from the patient's jaw, growing them in a culture room and testing them for bone-forming cells. We are advancing research to safely deliver these cells to the patient's jaw in the future.

Expected Benefits

Contributing to the Region and the World through the Development of Jaw Bone Regeneration Products
Patients who have lost their teeth and have thinning jawbones are not only those who visit our clinic, but are found all over the world. By restoring oral health, we aim to restore the eating habits that are the basis of human life.
