Background and objectives of activities
Kagoshima Prefecture, which spans 600km from north to south, from a temperate climate to a subtropical climate, is blessed with a diverse and unique natural environment, as represented by the World Natural Heritage Site of Yakushima and Amami, the Sakurajima-Kinko Bay Geopark, the Kirishima Geopark, and the Mishima Village-Kikai Caldera Geopark. In addition, Kagoshima Prefecture has features that other prefectures do not have, such as a thriving agricultural and livestock industry and two rocket launch sites. On the other hand, due to its geographical characteristics, it is difficult to say that an environment has been secured for children in Kagoshima Prefecture to learn about such natural environments and cutting-edge science and technology. Therefore, the aim of this project is to provide opportunities for elementary and junior high school students in Kagoshima Prefecture to come into contact with the natural environment and science and technology research in their region by utilizing the educational resources of the university.

Summary of Activities
The Kagoshima Future Creation Lab, a project for developing the next generation of science and technology personnel, is a program that aims to provide elementary and junior high school students with an interest in science and technology with opportunities to experience and learn about the real thing, and to create the real thing, through a variety of hands-on learning experiences at the university's well-equipped research facilities, with the support of instructors with diverse expertise. Through these programs, we aim to develop human resources who can contribute to the formation of a sustainable society by respecting the socio-cultural and historical heritage of their predecessors, effectively and integratively utilizing STEM/STEAM knowledge and skills in the realistic context of local communities, and creating better ideas, values, things, and events.
Expected Benefits
For children in Kagoshima Prefecture, this program provides an opportunity to experience activities at higher education institutions and gain experience in learning about science and technology.
