Background and objectives of activities

The Pacific oyster (Tobin-nya) has long been a resource used in the Amami Islands, and it is a familiar food that regularly appears on dinner tables. However, in recent years, the catch has decreased significantly, and there are concerns that the resource is deteriorating. Not only will the income of the fishermen involved in the catch decrease, but there is also the possibility that the food culture that has used it as a daily food will disappear. In order to achieve the sustainable use of the Pacific oyster, we will clarify its ecology and the appropriate way to manage the resource.
