Background and objectives of activities

The percentage of girls in Kagoshima Prefecture who choose to study science and technology is low, and this is thought to be due to their environment rather than their academic performance. Kagoshima Prefecture, which is made up of many remote islands as well as the mainland, also faces the problem of resolving the disparity in educational opportunities between urban and rural areas.
In order to achieve the SDG target of “quality education for all,” the Faculty of Science is working to hold various science courses for elementary and junior high school students, in addition to providing high school outreach classes.

The participating elementary school students commented, “I was happy to make a game that was well-made for the first time,” while the parents said, “It was great to have a chance to participate as a family, as it led to more conversation between parents and children.”
