Background and objectives of activities
To reduce the number of feral cats that prey on rare animals (such as the Amami rabbit) that inhabit the nature of Amami.

Summary of Activities
Since 2018, we have been supporting the TNR (Trap, Neuter, Return) program for feral cats in Amami City. Specifically, we are controlling excessive breeding by neutering (more than 1,200 cats so far) and returning to the community feral cats that do not have owners.
Expected Benefits
Feral cats are a potential source of feral cats that go into the wild and hunt native rare animals. By not increasing the number of feral cats, we can reduce the number of feral cats, and this will lead to the preservation of the diversity of the ecosystem, including rare species that inhabit Amami.
