Background and objectives of activities


The results of research on the prevention of lifestyle-related diseases, which began in 2005 in the 10 municipalities of the five Amami Islands while Takesaki was enrolled in the Graduate School of Medical and Dental Sciences, and which is still ongoing at the Graduate School of Medical and Dental Sciences, will be fed back to the residents and municipalities, and information will be provided that contributes to SDG Target 3, “Health and welfare for all”.

Summary of Activities

The research that began in 2005 in the 10 municipalities of the five Amami Islands is accumulating results, and the glocal knowledge gained in the field is being reported in international academic journals. In order to provide feedback to residents and municipalities, public lectures have been held in the Amami municipalities that are the research field, starting in 2022. This is expected to improve the quality of health activities in municipalities based on academic information based on local information, as well as to improve residents' health awareness. So far, this has been implemented in Setouchi Town, Amami City, and Tokunoshima Town.

Expected Benefits

The results of research based on local research results are of great interest to residents, and it is hoped that the circle of improved health awareness will spread to the region, as well as to improve the quality of local health and medical activities of the government.
