Background and objectives of activities
A wide variety of chemical substances are used in educational and research activities at Kagoshima University. Many of these substances are highly toxic or dangerous, and in order to prevent environmental pollution and health hazards, we carry out proper disposal of hazardous experimental waste and water quality management of experimental wastewater, with the aim of preventing environmental pollution and health hazards before they occur, both during and after use.
Summary of Activities
The Environmental Safety Center strives to protect the environment by providing guidance and advice on the proper disposal of hazardous experimental waste generated at the university. In addition, the water used to clean laboratory equipment and other items is drained into the public sewage system in Kagoshima City, and we carry out educational activities to prevent harmful substances from being mixed into this waste water from experiments, and we monitor the water quality of waste water from experiments at more than 40 locations on campus every month.

Expected Benefits
To be able to manage chemical substances and waste from experiments so that they do not harm the environment.
To have no negative impact on human health or the natural environment.
To prevent harmful chemical substances from flowing into water systems (rivers, oceans, groundwater).
