Background and objectives of activities

The Amami Islands are home to beautiful coral reefs, but the coral reef ecosystem is not made up of just coral, but also includes communities of seaweed and seagrass. The aim of this project is to conserve and restore the seaweed and seagrass that support this coral reef ecosystem, so that we can pass on the rich natural environment to future generations, and also support sustainable island fisheries.
