Background and objectives of activities
The proportion of females choosing a career in science and engineering is low. This is attributed to the environment, not to grades. Kagoshima Prefecture consists of the mainland and many remote islands, and the disparity in educational opportunities between urban and rural areas is another issue that needs to be resolved. In order to overcome this problem, the Activity has been conducting a career choice support program for boys and girls and a science career choice support program for female junior and senior high school students at Kagoshima University since 2013.
Summary of Activities
In order to enable female students to choose various career paths, the implementer has been conducting educational support activities at Kagoshima University in Kagoshima City to help female junior and senior high school students and their guardians "aware" that they can choose science-related career paths. In addition to onsite classes, the company has been conducting online remote classes since 2021 to provide support to high school girls in remote islands and their parents in choosing a science-related career path.
Expected Benefits
This activity will contribute to gender equality in science education and career choices for both urban and rural boys and girls by providing them with quality science education and "awareness" of science-related career choices. It will also promote lifelong learning opportunities.
