Viral infections such as AIDS, adult T-cell leukemia virus, hepatitis virus, and the new coronavirus are threatening the health of people around the world. We aim to elucidate the pathogenesis of these viral infections and develop new treatments.

Summary of Activities
We are conducting research into the pathology of HIV, which causes AIDS, HTLV-1, which causes leukemia and myelopathy in southern Kyushu, HBV, which causes hepatitis, and emerging viruses such as the new coronavirus, as well as research into new treatment methods. We find candidate drugs in the laboratory and then work with pharmaceutical companies to develop them.

Expected Benefits
We are developing treatments for the new coronavirus, which caused a pandemic, HIV and HBV infections, which are still ongoing, and diseases caused by HTLV-1, which is common in southern Kyushu, to protect people's health.
