Background and objectives of activities

Following Kagoshima Prefecture's rise to the highest national rate of low birth weight infants in 2017, the prefecture and universities have collaborated to research and clarify the factors contributing to this trend. The findings will inform awareness campaigns encouraging individuals to acquire accurate knowledge about sexuality and pregnancy—essential for safeguarding both their own future health and that of the next generation—while promoting current health management practices.

Summary of Activities

Using demographic data and existing data from local governments as the primary focus, we conducted analyses to clarify the background factors contributing to the increased likelihood of low birth weight infants being born.
Furthermore, incorporating these findings alongside currently established medical information, we are conducting awareness campaigns through lectures and other activities tailored to each generation (high school students, university students, working adults) according to their developmental cycle.

Expected Benefits

By providing information tailored to the current situation in our prefecture, both men and women can safeguard their own future health and that of the next generation.
